Over the weekend I watched one of my cult favorite films, Office Space. I can nearly quote it line for line now as I’ve probably watched it at least 50 times. Seriously. I interviewed Steven Root, and was delighted when he went into the Milton voice. Admittedly, it’s been a little while since I last watched it.
So after wactching it this weekend, I thought about the character Peter’s dilemma. He hates his job, or at least his job environment and the management, but after a hypnotherapy session gone wrong, he is left without a care in the world. He takes his uncaring attitude to work with him and quickly moves up the corporate ladder. Okay, it’s fiction, and it’s doubtful anyone could get away with just not showing up to work, however, is there a point we should take away from this?
Not just in the realm of work mind you, but in our lives in general. Is caring less the answer? Some might call it not sweating the small stuff. As a busy single mom I try not to sweat the small stuff but still usually end up feeling drenched. Maybe the real question is what is the small stuff?
I’ve posted a clip below to give you a little break from your workday and to perhaps inspire you to think about…..caring less.
