Thanksgiving Day Calorie Count
Thanksgiving Day Calorie Count

Thanksgiving is all about eating, but when you actually stop and think about the amount of calories a person consumes in the epic meal, it might make you think twice about seconds on the stuffing and gravy!

Check out the amount of calories there are in a serving of the average Thanksgiving dish:

6 ounces of turkey (white and dark meat) = 340 calories
6 ounces of ham=300 calories
1/2 cup of cranberry sauce = 190 calories
1/2 cup of stuffing = 180 calories
1/2 cup of candied sweet potatoes = 150 calories
1 dinner roll with butter = 155 calories
1/2 cup of mashed potatoes = 150 calories
1/2 cup of gravy = 150 calories
1/2 cup of green bean casserole = 225 calories
2 glasses of wine = 240 calories
1 piece of pumpkin pie = 255 calories

All of this comes to a total of 2,335 calories, which doesn’t seem that decadent when you consider the average person consumes about 2,000 calories a day, but that’s if you stick to the exact serving sizes. Most people are eating double and triple servings of their favorite sides. And when has Thanksgiving dessert not included various pies and sweets? Who only eats one piece of pumpkin pie?!

When you are sitting down to dinner, you have two choices – embrace the bloat and unbutton your pants for an eating bonanza, or, be conscious of serving sizes and skip sides that you can live without. (CollegeCandy)
