A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE APPLICATION FOR A TEXT AMENDMENT TO THE CITY OF CLARKSVILLE ZONING
ORDINANCE CONCERNING APICULTURE (HONEYBEE KEEPING)This resolution came about due to a complaint from a neighbor to the Clarksville Building and Codes Department relating to the neighbor of the complainant having bee hives in the backyard of a R-2 Single Family Residential Size lot.
Resolution 41-2013-14 will request that the Clarksville Regional Planning Commission look in to amending the City of Clarksville Zoning Code to regulation Honey Bee Hives. The resolution is requesting that the planning commission state in the zoning code that Honey Bee Hives would be allowed in zoning areas where the hives can be located 200 feet or more from each property line. The 200 feet recommendation would basically prohibit Honey Bee Hives from being located on Residential Property zoned R1, R1A, R2, R2A, R2D, R3, R4, R5, or R6.
I would like your opinion, would you approve of Honey Bee Hives adjacent to your residential property? Before you respond, please review the State of Tennessee regulations on Honey Bee Hives that can be accessed via this link http://www.tn.gov/agriculture/forms/apiary/honeyBMPpolicy.pdf You can also review the residential property tables on pages 75 & 76 on this link http://www.cmcrpc.com/pdf/04012014ZoningOrdinance%202014.pdf
The city council will be voting on this resolution Thursday evening.
