FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A Fort Campbell soldier accused of murdering a woman on post has waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

According to Maj. Martin Meiners with Fort Campbell Public Affairs, Pfc. Jerome Forrest waived his right to an Article 32 hearing on April 8 at Fort Campbell.

His case will be forwarded to the convening authority for a decision on whether to refer the case to court martial at a date that would be determined by the Military Judge.

Forrest, 31, remains in custody at the Montgomery County Jail.

Pfc. Jerome J. Forrest was charged with one count of murder under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, Article 118 on Jan. 11.

The charges are the result of a Dec. 17, 2018 incident at his Fort Campbell residence that resulted in the death of an adult civilian female.

Fort Campbell officials have so far withheld the victim’s name.

According to WKRN News 2, the woman who was killed is Forrest’s wife, Debbie Forrest.

She was found beaten to death inside her home in Fort Campbell on December 18, according to family members.

Forrest’s daughter, Kiara King, spoke with News 2 after her death.

“I looked at her as such an outstanding woman who could stand up for herself, someone who could defend herself,” King told News 2. “I never saw this coming, I never saw it coming.”
