MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Tenn. – A motorcycle rider was injured after being struck by a car full of juveniles who were attempting to flee from a state trooper Saturday.

According to a report from Tennessee Highway Patrol, a trooper was on Cumberland Heights Rd. in Montgomery County around 1:44 a.m. when he saw a 2000 Saturn LS driving northbound at a high rate of speed. The trooper attempted to catch up to the vehicle to pull it over, and the car continued speeding for about a mile.

As the trooper came around a curve he noticed a motorcycle on the side of the road with a person lying beside it and pulled over to help the victim.
Evidence at the scene indicted that the 17-year-old driver of the Saturn was negotiating the curve on the wrong side of the roadway and hit the motorcycle, which was traveling southbound.

The motorcycle rider, identified as 22-year-old Michael S. Winfree, was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center by Lifeflight with serious injuries.

The 17-year-old driver was charged with aggravated assault and leaving the scene of an injury crash. The two juvenile passengers have not been charged at this time.
