CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Regal Clarksville movie theatre and RPX will close its doors to customers beginning Thursday, Oct. 8.

Regal announced their decision to temporarily close all theatres on the company’s Twitter, “in response to an increasingly challenging theatrical landscape and sustained key market closures.”

The decision came shortly after Regal’s parent company Cineworld announced that they will temporarily close all of their UK and Ireland theatres beginning Friday, Oct. 9.

AMC theatres, which includes AMC Classic 10 at Governor’s Square Mall, remains open at this time, though the company’s stock fell 10% following Cineworld’s announcement.

U.S. Movie Theatres have been heavily effected by the COVID-19 pandemic, with many major studios having shifted focus to on-demand, home viewing. In September, Disney announced that their live action rendition of “Mulan” would forgo a theatrical release and appear as a premium release on Disney Plus.

AMC recently announced a slate of classic films, including Hocus Pocus, How to Train Your Dragon and Shrek, which will return to the big screen with a ticket price of $5+tax.
