A man dressed as a ninja attacked members of Fort Campbell’s 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment during a training exercise at a California airport, according to media reports.

The assault took place at Inyokern Airport, an airfield in the Mojave Desert about 100 miles north of Los Angeles, sometime after 1 a.m. on Sept. 18, according to accounts from Stars and Stripes and NPR, confirmed to them by the Ridgecrest, California, Police Department; the Kern County Sheriff’s Office; and U.S. Army Special Operations Aviation Command.

According to the account by Stars and Stripes, a staff sergeant was sitting outside the administration building at the airport hangar smoking a cigarette when he was approached by “an unknown person wearing full ninja garb.”

The ninja challenged and then attacked the staff sergeant, who ran across the parking lot, jumped a fence and entered the administrative building, where he and the captain locked the doors and called 911.

The ninja kicked and punched windows of the building, then heaved a chunk of asphalt through a window, injuring a captain.

According to the NPR report, Ridgecrest Police located the ninja on a nearby road. He refused commands, and police eventually stopped him with a Taser. They arrested him on charges of attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing a weapon, vandalism and more.

Both the sergeant and the captain, who were with F Company, 2nd Battalion, 160th SOAR, required stitches for their wounds but were cleared to return to duty, the reports said.
