We were so happy to have Austin Peay QB Mike Delillo in studio this morning to play ROTTEN REVIEWS! We decided instead of reviewing movies coming to theaters this weekend, we would look back on some classic football movies! Here’s how they stack up to Mike’s passer rating of 80% against Northern Alabama!
52% Any Given Sunday – Starring: Al Pacino & Jamiee Foxx
Four years ago, DAmato’s Miami Sharks were at the top. Now, his team is struggling with three consecutive losses, sliding attendance, and aging heroes, particularly 39-year-old quarterback Jack “Cap” Rooney. Off the field, DAmato is struggling with a failed marriage and estranged children, and is on a collision course with Christina Pagniacci, the young president/co-owner of the Sharks organization.
41% The Replacements – Starring: Keeanu Reeves & Gene Hackman
It’s late in the season; the playoffs are fast approaching; and the Washington Sentinels have just gone on strike. Scrambling for a solution, the Sentinels’ owner Edward O’Neil hatches a plan to bring in legendary coach Jimmy McGinty to recruit a team of replacement players in exactly one week. For fans and owners alike, the strike is a disaster. But for Shane Falco and a mismatched crew of outsiders, it is the second chance they’ve waited their whole lives for.
36% Little Giants – Starring: Rick Moranis & Ed O’Neil
Ever since childhood, nerdy Danny O’Shea has felt inferior to his brother, Kevin, a former college football star. Danny runs a gas station, while Kevin coaches the local youth football team. When Kevin’s team rejects Danny’s daughter, Becky, because she’s a girl, Becky convinces her dad to start a rival team, though the city can support only one. To prove himself against his brother, Danny begins coaching his team of misfits for a playoff game.
Clearly movie critics don’t know what they’re talking about when it comes to football movies, because to me, these are all 90% or better!
