Tipping is starting to get way out of hand. Look, I’m a great tipper. Before radio, I worked as a server and bartender. We rely on those tips to survive because you only make about $2 an hour as a server. In fact, when I tip, even for BAD service, I leave a minimum of 25%. You have to ROYALLY mess up for me to leave anything lower than that.
Heck, I was a Caprigio’s Pizza last week and after ringing up my order, it wouldn’t let me leave a tip. So I bought a cheaper item and then left them a tip.
But now, it’s getting out of hand. On TikTok recently a landlord got cooked in the comments on a recent video because he said we should be tipping our landlords. Unbelievable. There is no chance in heck I’m giving you the outrageous rent you charge me for this hole in the wall apartment, now you want me to add MORE? I don’t think so.
The latest place to get in on this trend, the self check out line at grocery stores. Now I’m not one of those that goes “These self checkout lines are taking away jobs!”. They’re not. They actually help with line traffic a lot. But if you think I’m going to pick out my groceries, scan them, bag them, pay for them and then LEAVE A TIP, you are sadly mistaken. You don’t see Tiffany and I asking for tips after each break we do in the morning as you get ready for work. Could you imagine me pimping out my Venmo after I finish doing our Morning PT bit? No, you can’t, because that would be ridiculous.
